Southern Thornlands map, location & getting here
Southern Thornlands sits in Redland City, Queensland, roughly south-east of the Brisbane CBD. Driving distance is commonly in the order of about 25–35 kilometres, depending on start point, route and traffic. Peak periods on arterial roads can add substantial time. This page orients the Southern Thornlands map and PDA edges; the legal boundary always comes from EDQ.

Nearby centres
Useful everyday reference points include:
- Thornlands — existing residential suburb to the north / north-east of the PDA area
- Victoria Point — major retail and services hub for the southern Redlands
- Cleveland — civic and commercial centre; Redland Hospital precinct; Cleveland rail station
- Capalaba — larger western Redlands commercial centre
- Mount Cotton — nearby locality west / south-west along Mount Cotton Road corridor
Main roads
Two corridors dominate access conversations in public planning material:
- Mount Cotton Road
- Western edge and major north–south / connector route. Already carries regional traffic; future growth is expected to increase pressure and upgrade needs over time.
- Boundary Road / Duncan Road
- Northern edge and key east–west style access. Also discussed as an upgrade corridor as the locality transitions.
Local roads such as Springacre Road appear frequently in precinct descriptions (including early-release / Precinct 1 context east of Springacre Road). Road works, temporary detours and construction staging will change — use live navigation and official road authority notices when travelling.
Public transport overview
Southern Thornlands is not a dense, frequent-service transit suburb today. Broader Redlands bus services operate in surrounding areas; coverage and frequency vary by route and time of day. For trip planning, use Translink’s journey planner rather than any static list on this site.
The Cleveland rail line serves the Redlands Coast, with Cleveland station a common park-and-ride / bus-transfer reference point for many residents in the southern Redlands. Reaching the train from Southern Thornlands typically involves driving, being dropped off, or connecting by bus where available. Confirm current services on Translink Journey Planner.

Traffic realism
Mount Cotton Road and connecting arterials already experience peak congestion. As population grows over many years, travel times will remain sensitive to school peaks, weather events, roadworks and weekend recreation traffic. Plan buffer time for appointments and school runs. This site does not publish “drive time guarantees”.
